Jodhpur: Around 125 people in 50 vehicles raided an under-construction solar power plant in Phalodi’s Dhandu village on Tuesday night and set ablaze about a dozen vehicles in the presence of over a dozen policemen.
The assailants allegedly fired at the plant’s staff and looted money from the office. Apprehending trouble, plant owners had hired 15 policemen for security of the factory, but all of them allegedly fled after coming under attack.
Phalodi SHO Rajeev Bhadu has been sent to the police lines for dereliction of duty. Jodhpur Rural SP Rahul Barhat rebutted the allegations on Wednesday and claimed that policemen did not flee but retaliated. “They fired back at the assailants and forced them to flee,” said Barhat, adding that the policemen fired 15 rounds.
An old rivalry between the attackers and the plant owner has been cited as the reason for the raid. Nobody was injured in the incident, police said.Barhat said according to the FIR, one Mahipal Bhadu had bagged a contract to construct a boundary wall for the upcoming plant.
“He has a rivalry with his cousin Bachnaram Bhadu of the same village who along with 125 people in 50 vehicles barged into the plant, damaged the towers, fired shots, set machines and about a dozen vehicles ablaze besides looting money,” the SP said.
Soon after the incident, police personnel along with senior officers reached the spot, but by then the assailants had fled leaving behind a trail of destruction.
“Six police teams have been constituted to apprehend the assailants and some have been detained, the officer said, adding that two cases have been registered and adequate force has been deployed at the site.
